The Application of Communication Strategies in Oral English Teaching in Middle Schools

Abstract

Communication strategies (CSs) play an important role in English oral communicative teaching. In China, research in this area just started at the beginning of the last decade, so further studies in this area under English language learning environment seem to be urgent. This thesis first reviews briefly the theories of CSs and introduces their definitions, classifications and the relevant researches. Then it gives a series of statement about the problems of Chinese middle students in oral English. Finally, it talks about how to train the students’ ability to use CSs most appropriately through two typical teaching designs. Meanwhile, it attempts to analyze the problem why some Chinese students always regard it as a headache to communicate in English, with the aim to make a partial contribution to the research of communication strategies, and then finds some possible answers to students’ problem in oral English and provides some suggestions on the teaching of communication strategies.

摘  要

交際策略在英語口語教學中起着重要作用。在中國,關於這1方面的研究僅始於90年代初,所以對於這1領域的進1步研究是急迫的。本文首先對交際策略進行了簡單地回顧,包括定義、分類以及1些相關研究資訊。然後列舉了中學生英語口語中出現的問題。最後透過兩個典型的課堂教學設計論述了怎樣鍛鍊中學生運用交際策略的能力。同時,本文針對中學生視英語交流爲頭痛問題這1現象做出分析,試圖對有關交際策略的研究做些微薄的`貢獻。本文不僅解答了中學生英語口語問題,而且還提供了1些有關交際策略教學的建議。
