Roles Shifting of English Teachers in Class under the New English Curriculum Standard

Abstract

Under the new English curriculum standard in which the new educational beliefs of “humanism” and “for students” life long development are advocated, teachers are considered to be the key to the reform. A proper understanding of a teacher’s role will directly ensure the full play of teachers’ professional quality so that the high-quality teaching can be achieved. “New English curriculum is devoted to transferring the way of the students’ study as well as the teacher’s teaching” (Fu Chundao 203). It is understood that the shifting of the roles has become the biggest challenge to teachers who are making every effort to adapt to the new roles requested. Based on the new English curriculum standard, by expounding the basic principles of the new English curriculum standard, this thesis attempts to make a study of the different roles that the English teachers of schools should serve as under the new curriculum so as to set up criteria to help for the teachers’ role in class and find out a smooth shifting of the new teacher’s roles from the traditional class. The third part is the most important. At last, it provides some suggestions on how to fulfill the roles-shifting of English teachers.

摘  要

在“以人爲本”和“爲學生的終身發展服務”的課程理念下,教師被認爲是課程改革成敗的關鍵。認識教師在新課標下的角色,直接影響教師素質的提高和教師職能的發揮,進而影響教學的實際效果。“新課程改革不僅要改變學生的學習生涯,而且也將改變教師的.教育生涯。”(傅春道,202)教師面臨的最大挑戰就是教師角色的轉變。本文以新課程標準和教學法爲基本理論依據,闡敘新課程標準的主要特徵,探討在新課程標準下英語教師角色的定位,旨在幫助教師樹立正確的的教師角色觀念以形成良好的角色轉移機制,爲新課程的順利實施作有益探索。此外,作者就如何實現英語教師的角色轉換提出自己的建議。
