去年11月23日，朝韓在延坪島（Yeonpyeong island）一帶相互shell（炮擊），雙方tensions mounted（緊張氣氛加劇）。後韓美進行joint military drill（聯合軍演），Korean peninsula（朝鮮半島）局勢一度到達brink of war（戰爭邊緣）。此次exchange of fire（交火）之前，朝方表達了希望重啓Six-Party Talks（六方會談）的願望。專家表示，朝鮮此舉是向李明博政府施壓，換取援助，解決朝鮮境內持續惡化的food shortage（食品供應短缺）。
